Welcome Inn
Nagano, Japan - 1991
A design produced in five days
over a low table in the tatami room of a gleaming corporate center in rural
Japan, nurtured by tea girls and bento boxes. A tribute to the
then novel portable CD and the always new Mozart, along with Bach,
Sim Van der Ryn’s favorite play along drawing companions. The plan
combines passive solar features with traditional Japanese ryokan rooms.
